2015 Miles and Points Travel Recap

Last year, I posted a recap of the travel we accomplished on miles and points in 2014. We had not done a lot of miles and points travel prior to 2014, so it was a huge year for us.

2015 ended up being an ever bigger year of travel! We traveled to places I never thought we'd go during this phase of our lives because of this fun hobby of collecting and spending miles and points.

January 2015: I used Southwest miles to fly solo to Orlando for a girls trip to Epcot.

Epcot

March 2015: This was our biggest family trip ever! We used airline miles for 5 round-trip tickets to Honolulu, and we used a combination of hotel points and travel rewards from credit cards for 8 free nights in hotels (including 5 nights at Disney's Aulani Resort).

June 2015: We visited my family in Colorado with 5 round-trip tickets and 2 free hotel nights.

Denver City Park

July 2015: We went to a reunion at Disney World and tacked on a few days at the beach. 5-round-trip tickets and 4 free hotel nights.

October 2015: We took a whirlwind trip to New York City with the kids! Five round-trip flights and 3 free hotel nights.

Top of the Rock

December 2015: We used reward points for a free night at Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas.

2015 Miles and Points Grand Total: We spent 729,804 miles and points (from American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Korean Airlines, Hyatt, Hilton, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Barclaycard points and Capital One reward points) for 20 round-trip flights, 1 one-way flight, and 18 free nights at hotels. The retail value of our flights and hotels was ~$13,151, and we spent ~$388 on airline reward ticket taxes and credit card annual fees.

I am so thankful that our health and current financial situation allowed us to take all of these "free" trips. Even though we had free flights and hotels, we still spent money on going out to eat, local attractions, pet sitting and airport transportation.

On top of our miles and points travel, we also paid cash for 3 nights at Disney World with one day at the parks, and we road-tripped within Texas on 4 different trips to see family.

Thanks a bunch to these resources that helped my family travel for (almost) free this year!
